Default 1966 Impala Sport Sedan

Hello,

Proud owner of a 1966 Sport Sedan that I just purchased, shadetree mechanic, and no where near a the body repairman I wish I was.

I'm having a horrible time finding sheetmetal for my 4-Door, 2-Door metal is all over the place and I was hoping someone might help me out.

I've checked EVERY supplier of aftermarket sheet metal I can find online, and none have the two parts I need. I was looking for a preformed panel that has the rear windshield window channel as I noticed rust around the trim, and I fear horror once I remove as there are pinholes I can see light through . I was also looking for a passenger side toe board (goes between floor pan and firewall).

I can't find either, and I'm scared to try and fabricate something (although the toe board seems to be just a flat piece of metal at an incline). The window channel scares me. I was hoping for specific help or advice from anyone that's repaired or had something like that fixed. I really don't want bondo/fiberglass in that area from all the horror stories I hear come later down the road.

If anyone had their's fixed, was it horribly expensive, $1000's of dollars? Did you find a preformed piece? Could you give me any advice?

Default Parts

You can use the rear glass channel from a two door sedan or caprice. The whole roof will not work but the chnnels will. The front windshield channel will also work. Also I do not promote stuffing and puddying however, for a guy who is not a great metal worker you might try to use some fiberglass cloth and resin, this technique works well and is water proof.= and is certainly more acceptable than newspaper and body putty.
Just make sure you use a rust neutralizer and clean clean clean the work area.
