Default 2001 Impala 174,000 Miles Should I buy?

Hello I am really torn ..I have a chance to buy a 2001 Impala with 174,000 miles on it for $3500 This car is very clean and the seller assures me that these are highway miles. The engine itself also looks very clean....Will the engine go out soon?? Is it worth it??

Thats alot of miles, My 1970 impalla has 120,000. BUT if it runs well and passes a mechanics inspection id say its a bargain.

Not sure if you're still waiting on replies but here goes.....

My 2000 Impala with the 3.4 litre just completed a trip of 2,900 miles with 2 people and gear loaded in 9 days, and averaged 31.7 miles per US gallon. There was some city in that and we travelled there and back through the W. Virginia and N. Carolina Appalacians. I tried to hold it around 60-65 mph. Overall it was a very comfortable ride.

Mine has 148k on it and feels fairly solid.

It's having issues lately with electrical switches and components which pisses me because they're not cheap. GM are you listening??? Mechanically seems ok except the steer intermediate link which should really have a recall.

Hope that helps.......aeroclimb
