Default 2003 Chevy Impala Over Heating

I just got this car from a family member. They had about 2000 dollars worth of work done on the car before I got it and he went through the car and replaced everything that was bad. I drove the car from New York to South Carolina and had no issues until today and I've been back from that drive for about 3 weeks. The coolant level is where it's supposed to be, and I just drove it and pulled over and noticed the fans aren't coming on. Are they supposed to come on whenever the car is running, or just when the AC is on? Sorry I don't know much about cars at all.

What's the temp gauge showing. Electric fans (assuming that's what you have) only come on if sensor tells them

At the hottest it got it was at about the halfway mark, but it usually hovers a little bit lower than that.

That doesn't sound like over heating.

Sounds normal.

Is this your first temp gauge?

Post a picture.

Is it cold where you are located?
