Unhappy 2009 LTZ Wheels

I have the 2009 Impala LTZ. The tires are 235/50/18 which means they are high performance and expensive. I just bought 4 and had them put on. I was told by the dealer, as well another one that although the tires are rated at 50,000 tread wear, if I get 36,000 miles out of them, I will be lucky.

My question, would another rim that is not as wide fit this car so the next time I buy tires, I can buy a set that doesn't cost as much? If so, I know I would have to buy the new rims, but just wondering if smaller width rims would work?

Ray,

I have a 2010 LTZ and I know the tire well. I also have it on my work car. Have you tried the same tire with a lower speed rating? IIRC that tire comes "H" rated as well and shouldn't be as expensive. I'd also try other brands. I guess you could get a narrower rim, but I don't believe there is an OEM rim for the LTZ in an 18" but narrower. You might have to go to an aftermarket rim to get what you're looking. I'd also check into the warranty issues as well if you change wheels.
