My brother inlaw is having his 64 Impala painted a metalic red. The painter wants to paint the dashboard the same color as the exterior of the car (Metalic Red). The interior is going to be all Black. What color should the interior be? i think the painter just wants to get away with another painting step. The car is going to be close to original. I think the red dash will stand out too much and so does my brother inlaw.

If you're interested in retaining some originality do not paint the dash body color. if it was black then go black. I believe the dash on those cars always matched the rest of the interior, unless it was white in which case the dash was black, however I have see a teal '64 Impala with white interior & a teal dash (but the gloss is differant). I agree with your opinion about the painter. just because he's a good painter doesn't mean he knows what to paint. I must admit I know much more about '65 & later impalas.
