Default A/C filter in cab?

I have a 2002 Chevy impala. Regular 4 door. I read somewhere that some of these vehicles have an air filter inside the car. In the dash. I believe it has something to do with the A/C. Can anyone tell me if my car has one. If so where is it located?
Thanks

Yes your vehicle has one and it is called a 'cabin air filter'. it's purpose is to filter the air that enters your vehicle, removing dust and pollen among other contaminants. On your vehicle I believe it is under the hood in an air box. Some manufacturers ( I know Purolator has in the past,) include instructions on changing the filter.

Edit: Also don't be surprised if when you do access your filter you see signs that rodents have tried to make a home there. On one vehicle I had , they constantly got into the filter and chewed t apart. This one was located behind an access panel in the glovebox. All the more reason to check and replace on a regular basis, Check your owners manual for the recommended replacement interval, if it isn't listed then one year or 12 to 15,000 miles is a good rule of thumb. Sooner if the vehicle is operated in dusty conditions.
