I drive mostly electric, have about 12,000 on my Volt. Noticed chemical smell yesterday near trunk area. Thought maybe I had driven over something spilled in road. Had car washed today. Still smelly.

 

Was the engine running at any point up until you noticed the smell? After running on electricity for a while, oils and other contaminates get splashed up on the cold exhaust system, then when on gas, they get burned off producing a smaell.
