Default Fuel Filter

If my 2006 Impala does not have a fuel filter is there anything I need to do to keep my fuel clean . Or anything special for the fuel pump or injectors?

Yes you need a fuel filter. The factory put it on there for a reason.

But Sauce, the factory didn't put one on my 06 either. Now me, I like the idea behind filters and all. So what did GM put on our late model Imp's to filter the gunk from the gas pumps? Or did they put anything at all? And is there a retrofit filter we can install?

The best advice I give my customers that have vehicles with "non-serviceable" fuel filters is to not let the level in their fuel tanks drop below 1/4 tank. When the level drops below that any sediment in the tank can get into the end of the pickup and cause issues with the filter.
Also do not get fuel at a gas station that is receiving a shipment of fuel at the time of your visit. When fuel is delivered, the action of the new fuel entering their underground tanks stirs up whatever is in the tanks and can be passed on through the car while it is being filled. The filters that the stations install on their pump only go so far and some sediment escapes filtration and can enter your fuel tank.
