Fuel Filter or Fuel Pump

Fuel Filter or Fuel Pump
I have a slight problem... My 1985 Chevrolet Caprice won't start. I just bought a brand new Duralast Gold Top battery and my engine sounds like it's not getting any fuel. I'm wondering if it's the fuel filter that hasn't been changed or the fuel pump. One day I got it to start by fully depressing the gas pedal and it started, but only if I kept my foot depressed on the pedal ( I let off of the pedal when the engine turns over). If I were to take my foot off of the pedal while it was idling, the engine dies. Also, a picture of where the fuel pump and filter would be nice, because I can't find it anywhere!

if it is a carbed the fuel filter is actually right at the inlet on the carb and again if carbed looking at the front of the motor from the front of your car the fuel pump shouldbe on your left side of the blockin front on the bottom sorry i dont have a pic if ya can crawl under neath might be esier to spot it from there

Also, I was telling someone at one of my jobs this problem, and they say that it's possibly the distributor cap or coil packs... Whichever I have.
