Default Headlights Stay On

Hello all in forum...
Heres the situation:
2000 Impala
Headlight indicator is on at the dash...
headlights are off, cannot switch this indicator off.
Lights remain on forever when engine shut off.
Mechanic , no clue, dealer, try this and that.... nothing worked... any idea?? (Perhaps the light sensor switch , is defective???), BTW... where is the light sensor switch, (photo electric cell??)

Many thanks in advance....

When you say the headlight indicator on the dash do you mean the Blue high beam indicator?
I had a 2000 Impala and that is the only indicator I remember as far as lights go.
There should be a photo electric cell behind the rear view mirror for the automatic headlights / dash lights feature.
David.

Also, this may sound silly but make sure the headlight **** is not turned to where it clicked so that the interior lights are actually on.
Is it possible a child or some one else may have turned them on and forgot

D they lights go out automaticly after 10 or 15 minutes the way they are suposed too?
