Default help with a 2002 Impala please

So it's not my air pump. because i just picked up an air pump, and though the two parts look similar. the air pump is WAY too big to fit. and doesn't have a hose coming out of it. so now i wonder, what part do i need for my car? is there any diagrams of a 2002 3800 impala engine, so that i could maybe see the part and find out it's name?

thanks for any help in advance.

it is my vacuum valve/solenoid that has gone and melted away. ran to advanced and auto zone they both said they didn't have the part, and that i would have to go to a chevy dealership.

is there any way i can order the part off of a site rather then going through my local chevy dealer?

Try NAPA? I am sure someone will chime in on a better source.

Cool, If you can post a picture of it maybe someone here can identify it. I hope it solves the problem.

**UPDATE**
So had an appointment today at the shop to get the whole thing checked out. changed the air pump saturday and the problem was still there.

Long story short... it was the catalytic converter clogged up. which then caused pressure to build thus the no power in driving. and heat to back up the exhaust and burn up the check valve, and blow the air pump FUSE so i may not have even needed to put the new pump on. but hey ya live and ya learn.

my only question now is, how could i have known that it was the converter? so i can recognize it the next time i have this problem with any other car.

Glad you got it repaired, sometimes we just need people with the right tools & knowledge to figure problems out, then we can repair most problems ourself. I have definately learned the hard way many times. I have a on-going problem with my engine that I dont have the $ to diagnose yet thru the dealer, for now I am doing a whole lot of investigating before I start buying parts and ripping stuff apart, Who knows, maybe I will figure it out before I take it in, in a month or so.

Thanks for replying back on your fix!
