I have 165,000 miles on my 2007 LTZ and had the fluid changed at 55,000 miles. I had all of the fluid changed, even from the torque converter with the machine connected to trans lines. Cost was $179.00 and then drove from Palm Coast, Florida to Albany, New York. Along the way the trans started slipping in overdrive. I stopped at Autozone and got a bottle of Lucas transmission fluid and fixed the problem. I check my engine oil all the time and check the other fluids too. I check the color of the oil and the trans fluid. Since that time I change all fluids myself, including the trans filter. I use Mobil One 10W30 in 3.9L V6 and K&N filters.
Dealerships make a little money selling cars, but make a killing running service centers. They pay their techs low wages, because most are non-union. If a part costs $100 they charge four to six times more.
Oh by the way I worked at three GM, one Ford and one Toyota plants last year. The year before I was at Google and Microsoft data centers.
When I was at Google the flex joint on the exhaust pipe at the engine went out..Very loud noise, sound like a race car. I went to Mr Muffler, they wanted $900, said have to replace the pipe from the engine to the resonator, including the cat. The Chevy dealer was across the street, I went over and they said the same, but $1400.
I went Autozone and checked the price of the part, their price was $275. They also told me about a repair shop near by, I went over and they replaced the flex joint for $125.00. Good honest repair shops are hard to find.
Also the repair shop bought the flex pipe connector from CARQUEST....hahahahahahha

For parts lookup rockauto online, they make autozone look like a rip off

But they are mail order. ..when you are broken down side the road and need parts now not three days later. I also have a Ford Mercury that was given to my wife to work on. Just got struts and control arms from Rockauto for her car. I hate working on Fords.
Have a 2011 Impala with 50,000 miles and just started to experience transmission problems. Happened 3 time now and what I think is happening is the trans is not down shifting when stopped. When you try to pull out the car is real sluggish and barley moves then a clunk and off she goes. Had it in the dealer and naturally they couldn't get it to repeat the problem. Told my wife we should just trade it in until I was informed that my 4 year old $30,000 Impala with just 50,000 miles is only worth $8,000 on a trade. Subaru here I come.
My 04 Impala LS suddenly died on me Feb 2015 the problem was the Mass Air Flow Sensor MAF I replaced it with one built by Cardone. The car ran but didn't seem to have the power it used to have but I thought I could live with. June or 2015 I had the transmission serviced. Almost immediately it showed the same kind of jerk me around that others are having that being slippage then a jerk. Since then it kept acting up now and then as long as I would take off slow and easy it was okay. I went to a transmission shop they wanted $2300 worst case price said it could be less, right okay. I kept trying to educate myself and found a site Triple Edge Performance. While going thru all the possible scenarios I came across one that stated the MAF sensor as a possible cause. Seems that the computer uses this information to modulate the hydraulic pressure to the clutches and bands. My jaw hit the floor could it be something that simple? I beat-footed it to the local junk yard and picked up a sensor from a 99 Monte Carlo they assured me that it would work. Work it did now it shifts more smoothly and no more problems, my lost engine power is back runs like a new car again, it has now been over a week since I installed it and it still works perfectly. I'm convinced that the MAF I bought was either defective or incorrectly calibrated for this 3.8 engine. The transmission service simply cleaned up things probably the grit within the clutches helped it along, afterwards it needed more pressure. So don't overlook this as a potential problem. Good luck Moose41
