Default low coolant light and total system shut down...what's going on?

2000 Impala 80,000 miles

A week ago, I had a few leaks in my cooling system fixed (lower intake gasket) and the coolant system flushed. I was driving on the highway (driven about 90 miles) and the low coolant light came on. Since the temperature guage was only at the half way point, I continued to drive. A few minutes later, my entire car shut off (no electric at all, no lights, etc). After about 20 minutes, the electric stuff (clock, lights, etc) came back on and the car would turn on. I added 1 gallon of DexCool to the system.

What happened? I am worried that I drove without engine coolant in my system. If I was able to add 1 gallon of coolant to the system, was there any coolant in the system? Any help would be appreciated.

Overheating will not cause you to lose power on everything, sounds like the ignition switch may be bad.

seems they fixed the leaks.. but didnt refill the cooling system or failed to properly purge air out of it...
check your battery connections for corrosion
