Default Matching Numbers

I have asked several knowledgeable people about this several times. And still have to ask. Did Chevy match engine and tranny numbers in 1960 cars? Have had answeres for both yes and no. Its my belief that they did not have the ability logistically to do so. Some have said on the ***. line they looked on the engine block code next in line to be installed and copy stamped that engine number on the next trans. that was to be installed. Any thoughts/ help ?

Beachbum,
Does not seem possible that those numbers could match. You also have the problem of the factory replacement of many Turboglides
with Powerglides during that era. That is what happened to my 1959 Impala.
