Default odd noise in my 2003 Impala

hi guys, i need some guidance, my 2003 48,000 mile impala has a knock / bang coming from the engine compartment while driving , no noise if I rive the engine in park. only while cruising it become noticeable at 35 mph and more noticeable as speed increase ,
I know it sounds like a rod /knock , but is noisy while cruising, any ideas,
could it be the front wheel drive?
or the tranny? has anyone had a similar problem?
please post
many thanks,

Try coasting at that speed and coast in neutral, see if it changes. When you say more noticable as speed increases, is that louder or a frequency increase?
