Need help! So a couple days ago I started hearing a high pitched whining noise and smelled burning. I noticed smoke coming from the alternator, then the car would not restart. I replaced the alternator and still won't even turn over. I'm a mom with 3 kids and gotta get them to school. I can't afford to keep having a mechanic look at it. If anyone knows, please advise me!

 

have the battery tested. a bad battery can kill a new alternator.

 

your battery is the first suspect. it probably hasn`t been charged for who knows how long. maybe its just discharged and needs charged or jumped off.
