Default steering shaft

2007 brand new Impala has been at the dealership twice for knocking in the steering shaft . The first time they replaced it which didn't really help, I brought it back again and they installed a 'lube kit'. This seems to be a known problem with GM...I'm just hoping that this is not going to be an ongoing problem.

It's an ongoing problem. My '02 Impala started it soon after I bought it. Had it replaced twice, doing the lube thing also.

Just like the ABS problem- they'll never be able to fix it. They just band-aid it.

I have had the intermediate shft replaced one at 11K, one at 14K and the third one went bad at 17K. This is a known GM problem. This 07 Impala has been turned in to NJ lemon law. I suggest that you save your paper work and do the same. Perhaps if enough people lemon law their cars, GM will fix the problem. Check the lemon law in your state and document everything.

Check back with your local chevrolet dealership as Gm has now came out with a new steering shaft that finally fixes this issue. I am having a new one installed as I speak. They guarantee me no more clunking noises as this last upgrade has been tested. Well, that's what they tell me.

I am having my steering shaft replaced right now. I certainly hope I don't have the problem come back, for GM's sake. In KY it only takes 4 times in the shop, for the same problem, to be dubbed a lemon. I am keeping all of my paper work in a folder with all my other files at home so that when/if it becomes a reoccurring thing I can hand them the keys and tell the to have a nice day.
