trac control and abs light
i have an 09 impala. when the temp drops below 40 deg outside, my trac control light and abs light come on. car still runs normal, but cruise control wont work. if its warm out, it doesnt come on. what should i look for?
I have the same problem on 2006 LTZ, but I'm getting intermittent Traction Control; ABS; AND Emergency Brake Engaged messages, lights, and that INCESSANT BONG-BONG-BONG...!!! Driving me nuts. Car has 135K miles on it, but it just started doing this a couple days after I had a remote start/door locks/emergency alarm installed after-market...car was ordered as a "fleet" vehicle, but wasn't taken by the companys so it went to a dealer and was sold to general public. Those features are normally standard on the Impala LTZ.
It was cold here (February in Upstate NY) when I had it done. It tripped a couple times right after install, but it would go away and not recur for days. Then the weather did a 180 - shot up to the high 80's for the last few days, and this car (me also) is losing mind!
I read quite a few postings about this, but didn't really see any definitive answers ("Take it to the dealer" is not helpful).
PS: Do NOT open/install that software for downloading "FREE" repair manuals. First of all, they're NOT free...and that software takes over your browser and wipes out everything you had previously set-up. It took me 3 hours to disable and remove the executable file, and then had to do a System Restore to 2 days ago to clean the Registry. Those SOB's should be locked up.

Just the opposite with my 2006 Impala LTZ. Didn't have a problem when it was cold...but when the temperature gets above 60 deg. F, those alarms start chiming away. PLUS; the E-Brake light and alarm go on & off intermittently. It's about 70 deg. right now - drove to the store and back (about 3 miles round-trip)...everything came on & off about 6 times during the trip. Then all of them cleared just before I pulled into the driveway.
Absolutely maddening.
Oh - here's a helpful hint that I read from a few condescending souls: "Take it to the dealer."

Something to keep in mind.
Not all service places have access to all the info required to find this type problem.
It requires a subscription, which costs $$, to have that access and that is a good reason why a dealership keeps getting the recommendation.
We don't like to part with our hard earned $$, but sometimes we don't have too much choice.

I haven't yet, Garry. I took the car back to the shop that installed the aftermarket remote-start and auto door locks/trunk release kit; to make sure they hadn't triggered a short somewhere that started all this. It was just a coincidence that I started having the problem a few days after the installation...but I believe it was because the temperature started warming up. When it's cold outside, I don't seem to have the problem.
I comes and goes - I could drive for a couple hours with no issues. Then; suddenly, I start getting all these alarm bells, dash lights, and codes flashing on the display. Traction Control, Brake Assist (ABS), and Emergency Brake Engaged can all come on at once. Another thing that started happening is if you have the keys in the ignition; and the car is running, it sometimes triggers all 4 doors to lock!!! It's not suppossed to do that - there's a chip in the key that's intended to prevent that (which is why the dealer wants $50.00 for an extra key!!).
I guess I have no choice but to take it in, and pay whatever obscene charges they give to fix a problem that SHOULD'VE BEEN RESOLVED THROUGH A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL!!!
Thanks for letting me vent. ;-) Rick
