Default 700R4 broke

Hey guys, this is my first post here but i got a 90 K5 Blazer with a pretty new 350/rebuilt transmission (less than 20k since).
But i was on my way back to Oklahoma State University from Fort Worth, TX yesterday after a weekend of offroading and i went to hit the gas on the highway and i could feel it catching barely so i went to pull off the highway and by that time it was as if i had just put the truck in neutral and was revving it up. After further investigation i realized i could put the truck in 2nd gear and 1st and 2nd were fine but if i put it in drive, the truck just revved up as soon as it shifted into 3rd gear. I limped it over to an auto place in Marietta Oklahoma and they called me today and said i need to rebuild the transmission.

Now i dont know if i should rebuild it or just start over friesh? I would like to continue off roading and my transmission felt great. It was shifting smooth and pulled the truck around pretty well. I know it had a shift kit on it but i bought it like that so idk the details. Would you guys say i should rebuild it stronger or get a new built up one? Or maybe go to a Pick n Pull and see if i can find a 700r4?

well the guy was $1800 for a transmission rebuild. Seems a little steep for me. I could find a built one for less than that and try and get it in there myself. My transfercase is always slipping out of 4hi and he said he also needed to reaseal the t case. Anyways i think im gonna have my buddy go pick it up on a flatbed and park her in my driveway till i come home for christmas and have acouple weeks to mess with her. Anyone else had their transmission go out like this? IDK what to do. He also told me it wouldnt have happened if i offroaded in a low gear but i dont feel like i ever get out of 2nd gear off roading anyways. I just put it in regular drive usually. What do you guys think? any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Evan.

I know its been a few weeks, but in my expierience stay away from the 700r4 for offroading. Id go with the 350 or a 400. I would pay some extra money and build it up a little. And depending on how hardcore youre offroading, stay in 4lo. Easier on the motor and trans. Pay to play ya know.
