According to another site on Malibu's... It is actually the plastic cowl on the out side of the car underneath the windshield wipers. The easiest fix is to use double sided tape to act as a cushion. Should fix the problem. I ripped my dash apart 2 days ago and I cannot find anything that was even close to be being loose. Hope this helps! I will be trying this as soon as I get back home today. Let me know if it fixes the problem.

I own an '06 Maxx with the same issue. It is indeed the black plastic cowl cover. What I did was to get some 1/2" trim tape and lift the cowl up and attached the tape to both the bottom of the windshield and the cover. I haven't had the issue since. I did have to redo it when I had the windshield replaced, but I still had the tape.
