Default 2001 Malibu AC problem

I have a 2001 Malibu that the fresh air and recirc switch keeps cycling in and out. Works fine for a bit in recirc cold air flowing, then kicks out to fresh air in and AC quits working. Is the switch bad or what else could it be.

Thanks for all the help

Larry

Welcome to the forum. The problem you describe is usually a flaky HVAC control module (control head, if you will) which was prone to failure on your generation Malibu. The HVAC control module has to maintain the A/C request signal to the BCM in order for the A/C compressor to engage. Does the little indicator on the A/C button go out as well? Check the voltage across the 10A IPC/HvAC BATT fuse (driver's side fuse block) which powers the HVAC control module. If you read steady battery voltage on both sides of the fuse, the HVAC control module itself probably has an internal fault.

Yes the indicator light does go off as well. Thank You for your help. I will test the amps, but I would think the control module be the problem.

Thanks again

I have found that if you pull the A/C module out and take it apart you can clean the contacts of the dial with alcohol and it works fine for a while. Hey, its cheaper than buying a new one.
