Default 2004 Chevy Malibu Fuel gauge not working

I'm having problems with the fuel gauge it says the gas is full and then will show no gas and drops to show empty and then later pops back up to full

What's the fix if any?

Thanks
matt

Probably a bad sending unit in the tank.

Is this something that can be fixed without dropping the tank? Is this a job for a service mechanic?

Did you resolve your issue? Same problem here.Your description was spot on with what I'm experiencing. I'm really tired of running out of gas.

if you have to change the sending unit in the tank there might be an access panel in the trunk under the carpet
