2004 Malibu manifold/catalytic converter
I have a 2004 Malibu base sedan (2.2l 4cyl) with a check engine light indicating "catalyst system below efficiency". First before I go and have the converter replaced ($$$$ which we cannot afford) what else (if anything) can trigger this error? Would it something that can be checked prior to purchase of a new part (i.e.-O2 sensor)?
If it is catalytic converter, all the replacement parts I'm seeing are integrated with the manifold (something I DON'T need) which jacks the price up. Is the converter available separately for installation?
