Default 2004 Malibu Maxx LT - Temp gauge stopped working, now works again?

'04 Malibu Maxx LT V6. Temp gauge stopped working, did not move off bottom of range.

Car did not appear to have cooling problems, ran fine, heater worked, coolent level OK, fans not on.

Next day, gauge works fine again.

Can you point me to info on where it's located on the engine, how to replace? Thanks again.

The sensor is located in the rear of the right head. Look down the opening between the battery box cover and coolant tank, can’t miss it. You can drain down the coolant a ways or what I would do with a cold engine is have new sensor ready and remove the old one and swap in the new, if fast will lose little coolant.
