2005 Maxx LS suspension noise
Just bought this Maxx with 93,000 miles and I really like it. I've had SUV's for the last 20 years and this is fun to drive. My question is regarding the suspension. It seems to just sound like a bunch of stuff is loose underneath front and rear. On the smooth roads and gradual dips she is fine but the stutter bumps are pretty loud and "loose" sounding. I haven't gone underneath yet but could it be the strut mounts in fronts? Can I change those without unbolting the strut from the knuckle? Sway bar bushings? Steering shaft?
If you are mechanically inclined get a service manual and make sure every thing is torqued correctly. Than start checking ball joints and shocks. If you don't understand what I am talking about take it to a mechanic and try to watch what they are doing. The front end on a jeep is very simple. I have limited mechanical ability and I have surprised my self with how much work I can actually do on my jeeps.
I usually just take my car to a place the offers free estimates (Monroe Fuffler/Brake, Midas, etc.) and let them tell me what is wrong with my car then bring the car home and fix it myself. Shady? Yes. But I know how to turn a wrench, but don't know enough about suspension to diagnose the problem myself.
