Default 2006 2.2L needs head gasket, any DIY How To’s

Been awhile since I’ve been on the forum but hoping to find some directions

buddy of mine picked up a 2006 Malibu with a 2.2L blowing lots of white smoke, oil looks fine so fairly certain needs a head gasket, and with the miles it has probably do the timing chain/guides while in there

just trying to find if there is a how to write up somewhere on here people could point me to. Makes life a lot easier when you have a guide to follow

He did pick up a Chiltons manual by the sound of it, but can never have too much info!

Thanks

Point of advice, either have the heads milled or checked on a surface plate for flat.

144 horsepower 2.2 liter in a Malibu is a slug. I'd just sell it or see if you can get a .gov rebate. Who wants to drive a car that cant move out when it needs to?
