2006 Malibu delayed AC suction and cooling
2006 Malibu with delayed AC cooling.
I can hear the compressor running but it takes several minutes for cold air to start blowing. During cooler weather, the AC starts blowing cold air rather quickly (with outdoor temp in 70s, cold air will start blowing within 60 seconds) but as the weather temperature increases, the delay before cold air starts coming out of the vents increases. (temp in the 80s = about 5 minutes before cold air starts, temps in the 90s/100s = 10-15 minutes before cold air starts).
This is NOT cabin temperature. This is the temperature of the air when you place your hand next to the vent.
During the delay period the air is ambient (in 90 degree weather the ac blows 90 degree air). The length of delay is related to outdoor temperature.
Once the AC starts blowing cold air and "is warmed up" it will continue to work for a period of time (if the car is shut off and started again with an hour or so, the AC will start just fine with cold air blowing within 60 seconds).
Repair shop serviced the AC and said that during these periods of no cooling they saw that the compressor was running but that there was no suction.
