Default 2013 Eco dead high-voltage battery

Hi all,

I have a 2013 Malibu eco with eAssist with 90k miles on it. Recently the 12V battery stopped charging and I got my vehicle towed to the dealer to another city (don't have one in the town I live). He inspected it and told me that the high-voltage battery seems to be dead. I was quoted $4700 for replacement (out of which the battery itself was like ~$3800).
That's really top dollar price, like half of the vehicle value, and of course I'm not ready to pay it like that.
I asked the dealer if the part was covered by warranty but he told me that it was not. Is that correct, as I though that the eAssist components were covered by 8-year 100k-miles warranty? Did anyone have similar problem? Should I fix the car or better just junk it away?

Thanks for the reply,
Oleg
