Hi - I have a 99 Chevy Malibu. Both back brake lights are out - the 3rd in the windows works fine, but the 2 in the back are dead. Bulbs are ok, and the only fuse I see that seems to reference them (STOP LAMPS) is ok. Any idears? I am getting ready to take a road trip and already got a ticket for these thigns being out. Please help.

take it to an auto shop thats good with wiring because it could be the wire has a short in it somewhere. or if your good you can try to follow the wire yourself or use a wire diagram to help you. but it deffinately sounds like a short circuit

 

If you're 100% sure the bulbs are ok then check the sockets for power and ground.

Possible issue is corrosion or an open circuit not a " short " since the fuse is good and the third brake light is working.
