AC not blowing cold

AC not blowing cold
Malibu 2006 LS
for last several months, when I turn my AC on (push the button, temp **** is already turned all way to left/cold) it will blow hot air. if I then turn the temp **** all the way to right and then back to left, cold air will begin blowing. if I position temp **** in middle or all way to right with AC off, then turn on AC, then turn to left, it will blow cold.
In addition to above, I noticed the air slowly being less and less cold, even with **** at full left. And now today at lunch, with outside temp at 90deg, it would not blow cold at all, regardless
