2013 Chevy Malibu LS with the 2.5L engine. I am a pretty good tech but looks like I need someone who is more advanced in electrical on this car. You may have to visualize this in your head because it may not make sense just reading it. Here it goes. Battery light is on. Scanner shows it’s the generator L terminal circuit. I did all the test on the alternator. Alternator is good. I then decided to check for continuity so I disconnected the neg battery terminal. I have unplugged the pigtail from the alternator. I then unplugged the pigtails from the ecu. My wiring diagram shows that the L terminal goes straight from the alternator to the ecu. No connections in between. I tested for continuity and it was good. I then checked voltage from the L terminal to ground on the battery. I got 12v. Remember both ends are disconnected and this wire has no connections in between according to the Mitchell wiring diagram. So I figured I’m pulling power from somewhere. On top of my positive terminal of my battery is 5 fuses. One is the power that goes to the starter and then on to the alternator, another fuse goes to the fuse box, 2 of the fuses goes to the instrument cluster, and the other one goes to the power steering. I unhooked all five power wires and tested for voltage on the L terminal. I got nothing which I expected. I connected only one power wire at a time and tested for voltage. I got 12v on the L terminal across all 5 power wires. I only had one power wire connected at a time. How is it possible for a circuit that is disconnected on both ends to draw power from 5 different power lines?
