Default Axle seals

On a '99 Malibu, I am trying to replace the axle shaft (halfshafts) seals. These are the two- piece seals that seal the axle shafts to the transmission. The setup is identical on both sides. There is a larger seal (green) which is easy to change out, no problem there. There is also a smaller, cup-shaped seal that is pressed onto the splined shaft coming out of the transmission. This one is a little trickier to change. The outer splines are a larger diameter than the inner part of the shaft that the seal case is pressed onto. Thus the seal wont just pull or pry off, let alone trying to press on the new one.
If anyone knows how to remove the old one and replace it with a new one, please let me know. Or if anyone knows a service technician from a GM dealer shop who may be able to give out a few friendly pointers, that would be great also. Thanks for any help you can offer.
