Exhaust terminology for ordering pieces
Greetings again!
--> The "center piece" (not the tail pipe piece) of my 2004 malibu has a crack in it, and thus, the car makes a "powder puff noise". I intend on ordering a new "center piece".
According to Autozone (clicking on "view job diagram"), the center piece is the muffler, and the tail pipe piece is the resonator.
According to Rock Auto, the center piece is the resonator, and the tail pipe piece is the muffler.
So that I order the correct part, which term is correct?

The muffler on the 2004 Malibu is the last component in the exhaust system. Just go to gmpartsdirect.com or any other online GM parts counters and pull up the subsystem illustrations/diagrams for the particular vehicle.
