Default Loud Thumping Sound When Turning

Hello all,

I have been hearing a loud thumping sound since July 2013. It happens when I turn the car. I have taken it to 5 different mechanics who have given me different reasons for the thumping noise. I've heard it's my suspension and Shocks, It's the alignment (Car was aligned in July), The power steering has a clip that is possibly broken, the engine mounts may be lose, the axle may be bent and/or the car needs new tires (which were replace in July).

I've seen on a lot of other forums that other people are hearing this noise too and the problem hasn't been resolved without multiple, unnecessary and costly repairs.

What could be wrong with my car and is GM planning on issuing a recall for the problem?

My 06 Malibu has had clunking sense 15,000 miles. I now have 160,000 miles and it still does it. And my car still works just fine. The clunking has not gotten any worse. Having looked at a lot of forum on this issue I decided it was not worth fixing until it failed or the exact cause was found. Just letting the dealer throw parts at it didn't seem like a good fix.

steering shaft??? I don't remember the real name of the part... However it is a Chevy Achilles heal on everything from pick ups to cars from about 1992 till about 2009 No recalls , just go after market for the part otherwise you will end up with the same clunking sound in about 15000 miles. You can drive it forever if the noise doesn't bother you and have no further issue
