Can anyone tell me what causes the check engine light to come on with error code P0410 Secondary Air Injection System? I want to have a little info in handbefore the dealer tells me I have to replace the engine or something (female, gullible, you know dealers sometimes). It's a 1999 Malibu with the 3.1L V6 engine code J.

The Secondary Air Injection System is a pump under the drivers side fender. It pumps air into the exhaust to lower fumes.
GM has a problem with most of them. Mine included. If your car is uner 50,000 miles it should be coevered by the Emissions warranty.
The problem is somehow the pump becomes filled with water and they do not how. It may cause the Air pump fuse (located under thehood,the black box underthegrey boxon the passenger side, a yellow 30 amp fuse) to blow.
Mine happened in the winter and froze the pump damaging it. I have read where most made a hole in the rubber cover on the pump allowing the water to drain to it fixed the problem.
