Bought an '11 Malibu 2LT with 72k miles. Dealer remote started the car right there in the parking lot, and it hasn't worked since the day we drove it home. I'm pushing the lock button twice then holding the remote start button forever, nothing happening. Every once in a while the lights will flash, so it seems like there is a signal going from the keyfob to the car, but that's the only sign of life we see with the remote start. Could it just be the keyfob?

 

maybe? factory remote or aftermarket?
the factory remote start will be disabled if:
-the hood is ajar
-any fault that sets the check engine light
-fuel level is to low...fuel light on?

If the other remote functions work...it could be a bad remote start button...try the 2nd fob.

 

You nailed it. My check engine light is on. P0010 or maybe j0010. Some kind of cam timing sensor. They are fixing that tomorrow .That must be it because the sales guy did start it with remote when we were looking.
