ok my mothers car just started having problems, its a 2000 malibu with a 3100. today when i went to my sisters house she shown up and said her car had the check engine light on and when she put it in any gear beyond netural is would sputter and idle would kick down to about 500 rpms.

i checked and the car did just that and acted like it had no power.
we took it over to a garage to have the codes checked and it said the oil pressure switch was bad.

now my question is would low oil pressure cause the car to run like that ? i mean i dont see why it would but from what i learned about cars threwout the years is that anything is possible.

now the car runs fine and has plenty of throttle response in park and netrual.

shes gonna take it over to the garage tomorrow to get the sensor fixed.

i would do this but since im not able to at the moment its best if she took it over to a garage to get it fixed.

has anyone had this problem before? oringionally i figured some sensor in the transmission that caused this but the thing shifts smooth still and all.

so far my mother taken the car ot the garage and they said they did the oil sensor switch and the coil pack and thats all it was i guess... $106 total which isnt bad... if thats all it is for sure ill post it on here in hopes it might help someone else down the road
