Default Winter Tires

I have a 2009 Malibu LTZ with the optional 18" rims. Will the standard 17" rims work on this car with winter tires,if so will it affect the performance ?I currently have 225-50-R18 and the wheels I was looking at were 215-60-R17. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. 215/60R17 comes pretty close to the original diameter. Your problem may be finding that size in a good winter tire. Performance on snow and ice or dry? Winter tires are obviously excellent on snow and ice but they tend to be soft, mushy, and loud. Also, they wear out pretty fast (2-3 seasons and they are usually done).

Thanks for your reply.I just bought the car recently and was looking to purchase winter tires and rims ( for next winter ) it's just easier to swap them instead of putting winter tires on my good rims. There is an ad in our local classifieds for the 17" tires and rims to fit my car but wanted to make sure that they would work on my car since it came with the optional 18" wheels. Thanks Again

You're quite welcome. Don't forget the TPMS sensor costs in your equation. You can leave them out but then it's going to nag you in the I/P cluster constantly.
