Default 2007 Monte Carlo using oil and jerking on engine displacement

I have a 2007 monte carlo ss with the 5.3. with the engine displacement about 50,000 miles it started jerking on a 2000 mile trip when the engine went from 4 to 8 cylinders and vice versa. Took it to the dealership and of course they could not duplicate it. They did find an oil leak in one of the cylinders gaskets ( bear with me, I don't know all the terms). It still continued to jerk. They told me there is nothing wrong with the car. It came out of it for a couple of months. Now, went on a 2800 mile trip (66000 miles on car) and the car did the same thing only worse. When it would go from 4 to 8 and vise versa it was such a hard jerk that everyone in the car could feel it. Of course it was in Houston traffic and we were moving about 70. Get home and it used a quart of oil which is not normal for this car. The car is also shaking slightly at an idle. goes into the shop today again. Please help any suggestions? I only have one month left on my warranty.

Because it is an intermittent problem and the dealer cannot duplicate it, it becomes more difficult to diagnose.

Do any warning lights come on?

No warning lights. Mechanic rode with me today, it did it once but not a hard jerk like on this last trip. He said he didn't feel it. He thought since the car used a quart of oil (in a week, on the long trip) that there was a leak or the motor is using oil (duh). He said if the oil was low that the oil pressure is low it will make the car jerk when dropping or adding cylinders because the displacement works on oil pressure. (I don't know, I am just quoting him) It is in the shop right now. They assured me that it will be covered no matter since it is on ongoing issue. Do I believe that?

UPDATE: The dealership is replacing the gasket on the oil pan and cleaning the valves. Said that oil was spraying into them. Let's see if this helps with the issue. I will keep updating.

I am having the same issue. I am almost at 45,000 miles and it started jerking when switching from the 4 to 8 cylinders and vice versa. About 3 weeks ago I got it back from getting tires and the add engine oil message displayed, it was nearly empty on the dipstick and took about a quart of oil. It also shakes slightly when idling. I thought I just needed an oil change since is is due for that until I read this post. I am going to take it into a shop today.

Please keep updating! Has it happened since they changed the gasket ans cleaned the valves?

UPDATE: You are all gonna love this..... So This issue started about March of 2011 I had it to the dealership 4 times for the same issue. Finally after this last time in March 2012 when they changed the gasket I just gave up! Could no longer deal with them cause my anger issue it was causing. One more trip to texas 989 miles started jerking constantly going down highway. Low and behold, I took it to a dealership in texas and they said it was the transmission. Got GM to cover it cause it was a pre existing condition that was ongoing for over year and half that my home dealership "could not duplicate" and they changed the gasket on the oil pan saying this was the issue I had. WOW. And, yet it gets better! Texas had the car ready two days before I had to be home. First thing the service manager said to me was...... Wait for it....... There is still an issue. The car is still jerking. Told us to take it home since we had to be home and work in two days and that it had 1 yr or 12,000 mile warranty. Of course, the transmission slipped all the way home. Seeing that GM paid for it you'd think I could take it to a dealership and get it fixed right away, Right? Not a chance. Car has been sitting at third dealership waiting to be fixed because Texas has not send the paperwork (they gave us none). Now 5 days later finally get paperwork and the dealership won't touch the car until they speak with thier GM district manager. So, Texas GM district manager that approved the repair called local GM district manager and waiting for him to call me and the third dealership tomorrow. I have NEVER been so PO'd in my entire life. Anyone got any suggestions to lite a fire under the dealerships A$$? Any thoughts? Good , Bad, Indifferent?

Wanted to add that I called the original hometown dealership's GM and made a complaint and his response was " And this is my fault why?" Gee, maybe only because the service dept didn't fix it the first four times it was in your shop.

Default Update

Just wanted to give an update. Transmission had to be completely rebuilt for a second time. GM did end up covering the costs. Seems to be running fine now. Gotta take a trip to Texas to see. LOL.

I caution anyone out there having issues with these transmissions to stay on top of it and don't take no for an answer like I did for the first year! Yell until someone listens!

As for me, I have always owned GM products..... Four weeks ago we traded in our Avalanche and bought a DODGE RAM. I am planning on trading in this Monte Carlo in for a Challenger in a few months. I have completely lost my brand loyalty. The GM dealerships have been nothing but nasty with me and it has soured my view of GM.

I made complaints with GM but it didn't seem to matter! Never received any apologies!
