Default 93 lumina sedan - smoking?

This is an odd one...

Wifey car - 1993 Lumina, Euro sedan, she gets what she is calling "smoke" coming from where the dash meets the top of the steering column...

she said no smoke smell.. my gut thinks this is steam from a fitting, or hole in the heater core, but please correct me if Im wrong...

Car doesn't overheat, and the heat is good in the car... it doesn't happen all the time, like for 10 mins then stops for a day, then maybe 5-10mins again...

I think it happens after the car sits for at least an hour, and then she drives it...

anyway to rule out the heater core? she is freaking out now about this, and thinks the car is going to "start on fire" but I knew if it was exhaust smoke, she wouldn't even be able to breathe.

ideas?

Thanks
