Default Strange noise

After I start my car I hear a howling noise. The sound doesn't increase or decrease when I press or depress the gas pedal. Inside the car it sounds like it's coming from under my back seat. When I go outside and listen underneath it is louder of course but coming from that same general area.

Could it be my fuel pump fixing to go out???

can't think of anything else other than fpump that would make noise back there with the car stationary.

with the car off; cycle the key to run. the fuel pump should run for 2 seconds. does it make the same noise?

check fuel pressure; spec is 41 to 47 psi. If ok, remove the vacuum connection at the pressue regulator. the pressure should increase. Rev the enging to 2500rpm and hold. if the pressure drops more than 2psi the system can't deliver volume.

have you changed the fuel filter; due every 50 000km
clogged filter would increase the load on the pump.

if you confirm bad pump change the filter with it.

When I turn the key to on, I can hear the fuel pump engage. It only makes that sound when the car is running.

Thanx for the spec...I will check out the pressure in the morning.

I bought the car used year and a half ago so no, I haven't changed the filter.

best way to isolate the noise is to safely put the car on jackstands and get under the car.

can you post a video of the noise? Its not an exhaust leak is it?

It was the pump, it died on me day before yesterday in front of my friend's house luckily.

Went to the junkyard and got lucky again and got a pump. I also ordered a new one off of ebay.

I had a cold chisel and made an access port in my trunk to get the pump. I will post pics after I go over it and make it nice and purtie...lolz!

Thanks for the responses!
