I recently acquired a 1988 Chevrolet Suburban Outdoorsman that I didn't even realize was an official package available from Chevrolet back in 1988. When I began researching what the fuel tank size was and found an original 1988 Suburban sales brochure, I found that the Outdoorsman package was a factory option. Our Suburban is fully complete except for the fiberglass color matched roof rack covering. I have not been ale to find any other example of an Outdoorsman package other than that found in the brochures an in the 1988 Dealer Ordering Guide where it shows the RPO as TCE which is also on our SPID tag in the glove box. Can anyone shed some light on this rare option package. Build quantities? Are there any out there in collections? We plan to fully restore this unit to it's original luster and glory but hope to also find specs on the fiberglass topper so we can have one built for it.
We are planning to complete a full restoration on this Outdoorsman. This will be our 4th Squarebody Suburban restoration but the most unique for sure. I don't have a lot of known history on these other than the factory ordering guide that dealers used. I would love to know how many were built as there just doesn't seem to be much or nearly any information on these units. Obviously mine doesn't have the fiberglass roof topper, and it doesn't show any evidence that it was ever there. That makes me question if you could order it with a roof delete. Apparently there were two optional packages, a fisherman version or a hunter's version. This unit looks like somewhere in between the two. We definitely have our work cut out for us, but she's a rust free body with no accident history and a lot of very cool options still operational inside. Cheers
