Default 2004 venture front end clunking noise

Hi. I drive a 2004 venture van and it has recently started making a clunking sound from the front end, on occasion, when I start up from a dead stop at a traffic light for example. It feels like the transmission is slipping and then clunkling into gear, even though it is already in gear as I am waiting for the traffic light to change. A friend of mine with a similar chevy problem was told by a transmission repair shop that the problem was not the transmission but was likely due to the anti-slip mechanism of the front wheels. They may be temporarily locking up and unlocking on take-off causing the clunking noise. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated.
