2007 Chevy Equinox. Rear wiper & Lift Gate promlem..

2007 Chevy Equinox. Rear wiper & Lift Gate promlem..
I have a 2007 Chevy Equinox ( 140,000 miles ). Recently,
the rear wiper moved slow and then stopped. also, the rear lift gate started to not open sometimes, over about 2 or 3 days in a week.
All this started happening at the same time. It was winter so, I figured that where it was so cold, it may have had an effect for any kind of reason along with other things that dont like ice buildup.
Now the lift gate and rear wiper doesn't work. When I push the latch button, it makes a very faint sound but, won't unlatch. I've never heard of the wiper and gate latch going out at the same time on anything b4.
Has anyone had this happen to them? if so,.. if one of the 2 parts goes bad, does it cause the other 1 to stop working also? I checked fuses and they seem fine.
