Can I interchange a 1999 4 cyl Malibu with a 2000 6 cyl Malibu starter????

Can I interchange a 1999 4 cyl Malibu with a 2000 6 cyl Malibu starter????

I have a 1999 4 cyl Mailbu and also a 2000. The 2000 is a 6 cyl and requires a starter. Are the two vehicles interchangeable as this goes? Please advise. Thanks in advance. Lou
