Engine Light & Traction Control Light frequently turning on- Stabilitrak Disabled
I have been having Stabilitrak/Traction Control problems with my 2004 Chevrolet Suburban. I purchased this vehicle in 2005. It is now 2017. My Suburban has been awesome to drive. I bought a camper trailer to use during my retirement. I purchased the Suburban to haul the camper. I have not done much hauling of the camper. I had the camper parked on the beach in the Solomon Islands, MD. The camper is now in storage. I mention the camper because it would be extremely dangerous to be driving at 60 MPH on the highway, and all of a sudden the speed drops to 35 MPH, and the speed continues to decelerate. This situation puts a lot of drivers at risk. My Suburban has received all routine services as recommended over the past 12 years. I only have 70,000 miles on my 13 year old vehicle. I have not had any major problems with my vehicle.
My Suburban has been acting the same way as reported by many other bloggers. I had the throttle body replaced two months ago, and the problem continues (engine light on, and traction control light) decreased engine power. I hate Stabilitrak! I seriously thought about removing the Traction Control Fuse, but I have concerns about ABS malfunction.
I use to live in Alaska, and I drove a manual 4 Speed Chevrolet Blazer. Before the Blazer I drove a Toyota Chinook Mini Motorhome with a manual transmission for 14 years. I sold this vehicle in Alaska. I am use to driving in the snow, and on bad roads without Stabilitrak. I cannot understand why Chevrolet has put this system into operation on its vehicles, knowing the dangerous situation this creates. I do understand how Stabilitrak is suppose to work with a spinning tire. I have had times when my Suburban has stopped altogether, and I had to restart the engine! I am female, and I travel alone. I don’t like thinking about “what if”. It is very strange to me that the problem occurs intermittently. I purchased an OBD Reader; I consistently get the same code "throttle position sensor" .
I also purchased HUM by Verizon. I get instant notifications of problems with my vehicle via my e-Mail account. The Chevrolet dealer said my problems were being caused by my HUM! Even though I was not convinced that the HUM was the problem, I stopped using it. The Engine Light, and Traction Control Light started coming on about a year “after” I purchased HUM by Verizon. So much for the dealer’s diagnosis!
It looks like the throttle position sensor" that was put In my vehicle two months ago was defective. I am back at the auto mechanic for the 4th time. ACDelco TPS is not working. I now have to wait for GM part to come in tomorrow. I pray it’s the correct one (with traction control). I am losing my days to do errands at home dealing with this problem. I would rather lose days than lose my life . I am seriously thinking about purchasing a new vehicle. It definitely will not be a GM vehicle.
Long story…..guess I should write a book!
