Default engine number

hi im new to the site and have recently purchased a 96 silverado here in australia. the truck has been converted to right hand drive and im currantly trying to register it.
my problem is i cant find the engine no on the block.
is there any one who could piont me in the right direction as to where it would be stamped or dont they stamp the engines in the us.

i know they do still have the #s on the block. if i remeber right its ether on the back of the block or near the back down by the frost plugs. hope ths leads you in the right direction. also i would suggest maby geting a good engine degreaser and clean th motor real good before you start looking so that the #s are not hidden in all the lod motor goop.

Still couldnt find it but neither could the transport personal but all agreed it was in the area you mentioned. still i did get it registered so all ends well
