Howdy!
Glad to find this site!
I purchased my 2005 1500 5.3L Silverado Z-71 used 2 years ago and have to say it seems to be well built and pretty rugged. A nice 4WD upgrade over the 99 V8 Dakota I had. I don't think I would ever buy another Dodge. It was constantly needing something repaired/replaced. It ate ball joints every 25K miles.
It does have some rattles and squeaks (mostly from the extended cab doors) and the CD player has issues. Noise from drive shaft when shifting into second is a bit annoying. I'm hoping to find some fixes for these issues here, but overall it seems to be nicely built.
It's still WAY better then the Ford alternative-either gas ($$$$ spark plug repair anyone?) or diesel (head gaskets, EGR cooler water leaks into engine, etc.). Foreign companies' trucks are anti-American to me, regardless of where they are made.
Thank you to the people that run this site. It's much appreciated!
