Default Mystery connection

I found this un-terminated wire in the engine compartment. One end is connected at the backside of the fuse block. It is long enough to reach to the tranny bell housing but I don't see any post or other type of connector.

Temperature switch on the engine somewhere? Oil sender light? You could ground it through a light bulb tester of some sort and see if any dash lights come on.
