This is my first entrance into this forum, i have had my old tahoe for a few years now (2003 Z71) and love that i can throw it anywhere and it doesnt care. She has about 290,000 miles on her and i am thinking it is time to move up a gen or two and get the bigger girl this time. Got a 4th kiddo on the way. I am torn between getting an 11-14 or finding a 16-17 suburban, would want it loaded out, what are some of the issues or things i should look for when i start the dreaded car shopping. Hoping to find something with about 15k a year in miles to make sure it has plenty of life in it and push it to 300k like my old tahoe.

Welcome from Florida. I would try and get maintenance records if at possible. I would also avoid a rebuilt title. Check all the ads in your area to see what the going prices are on compatible vehicles.

Yes rebuilt/ salvage is a non starter for me, median prices seem to be 12-15k for the earlier years and 18-25 for 2015+ didnt know if the newer gens have usual big ticket items like tahoe (00-06) front diff/transfer case generally at 200K miles.

Welcome to the forum. I know that the AFM on the '07 through '14 had some serious problems with eating up lifters and cams. A lot of engines got replaced. Another common problem was the dash would crack after a few years. I read that the replacement dashs had been re-engineered but they also cracked.
You could scan through the Tahoe section of this forum looking for reports of problems.
